The general stages of life and historical-scientific analysis of research, organizational and social activities of the outstanding Ukrainian scholar-botanist, florist, systematist, president of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (1922-1928), academician of the All Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, and corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Volodymyr Ipolytovych Lіpsky (1863-1937) are reflected in the dissertation. V. Lіpsky's research activities are viewed in the context of the botanical science development. The scholar has made a ponderable contribution to the Botany development, to the organization of this science in Ukraine. The analysis of his research works gives arguments to affirm that they haven't lost their importance even today.
