Essay

The dissertation contains research on how the cognitive and emotional spheres function in people inhabiting the strict radiation control zone. The evidence was found that, after the lapse of long period of time since Chernobyl catastrophe, children show the lower level of intellectual development, of mental capability, and of attention. The emotional sphere of children affected by living for a long time in the environmentally adverse situation features the high level of neuroticity, increased anxiety, and presence of emotionally negative symptom group. The author proved that even after the lapse of time, people that live in the contaminated zone require psychological rehabilitation. This is especially true for children, as the adverse environment produces the hampering impact on their intellectual development and causes distortion of their personal development. It was elicited that psychological correction of the cognitive sphere functioning demands, first of all, the lessening of nervous tension and neutralizing of emotionally negative symptom group. Developed was the schedule for differentiated psychological aid system, using the methods of art therapy.
