The thesis deals with the problem of teaching written communication in German to elementary students at the linguistic pedagogical University. The step by step methodology of teaching two types of written communication – narration and description has been theoretically grоunded. The aim and tasks of teaching, the peculiarities of teaching narration and description, have been defined. General and specific skills of teaching narration and description in German were distinguished on the grounds of the analysis of the teaching written communication content. Teaching materials were analysed, selected and organized. The set of exercises for teaching written communication (narration and description) was thoroughly grounded theoretically and corroborated practically. The efficiency of the proposed technique of teaching written communication in German was experimentally proved. The main aspect of the research were applied in teaching linguistic students in four higher educational institutions in Ukraine.
