Essay

The thesis deals with comparative research of the notions of subjective semantic spaces such as "space", "time", "environment", "Englishman", "Ukrainian" in the English and Ukrainian languages under the conditions of traditional and experimental teaching, and with determination of divergences and similarities, stable ties between these notions. The essence and the components of the Linguistic Country Studies have been specified. The usage of different methods of Linguistic Country Studies contributing to more successful foreign language mastering has been proved. The conditions of the acquiring of connotative meanings in the English and Ukrainian languages have been defined. The divergences of notions of Linguistic Country Studies in the Ukrainian and English semantics among the students have been psychologically interpreted with the help of equal usage of Ch. Osgood's method of Semantic Differential. The presence of coherent changes of the Ukrainian and English structures of the investigated notions'semantic spaces after the experimental teaching has been proved. The recommendations on the livening up the English language teaching process have been worked out.
