The dissertation covers the issue of psychological conditions supporting the development of an adolescent as a subject of cognitive activity. Elaborated was the conceptual model of subject qualities forming in schoolchildren on the lessons of world literature under conditions of secondary education humanization. Psychological conditions of formation of an adolescent as a subject of cognitive activity were determined. These are: activation of pupils' thinking due to the teacher's relevant instructional actions; development of the critical attitude to their own point of view and to thoughts of other pupils and the teacher; development of capability to understand the statements of the partner in communication and to substantiate the student's own opinion, to put questions and formulate ambiguous issues, to submit some new ideas and proposals, and to correct, if necessary, the other students' statements in the process of problem solving, while using the acceptable contribution; forming of skill at assessment of the communicants' actions, at perception of the partners' positions through the prism of the problem to be solved, at schematization of partners' actions in the event of an insoluble problem, and at tolerant attitude towards the alternative thoughts and opinions of other subjects of cognitive activity.
