The present-day problems of the economic development of the region have been investigated in the thesis.The present-day problems of the economic development of the region have been investigated in the thesis. The basic theoretical and methodical questions of the organization of the state regulation of the economy on the regional level have been considered. The possibility of the improvement of the mechanism of the management of the region on the basis of using strategies and programs of the social-economic development has been substantiated. The basic types of strategies have been defined, their classification has been made, the role of the program-purpose management in the work of the municipal government has been determined. The methodological approaches to regional analysis have been summarized. The basic purposes of the analytic research have been defined. The methods of the analysis of the social-economic development of the region have been proposed.On the basis of the carried out research the state and tendencies in the development of regional economy have been shown up. Particular importance was paid to the questions of the formation and realization of the strategy of the economic development of the region, to the financial maintenance of the managing functions. The conception directions of the social-economic development of the Cherkassy region have been suggested.
