Complex investigation of the problem of the qualitative press coming into being in the post-communist world is carried out in the dissertation on the material of Ukrainian mass media. The essence of this phenomenon is elucidated on the basis of foreign authors' theoretical investigations, origination of the qualitative mass media in Ukraine and the ways of improvement of their functioning are comprehended. The world and home experience of the qualitative press creating and functioning is generalized.
