Essay

Object of research are variability and inheritance of tomato fruits suitable for long shelf-life storage in different ripeness. The purpose of researches has consisted in theoretic grounds of breeding work for high fruits keeping qualities and development of new tomato varieties and hybrids having fruits suitable for long shelf-life storage.Two genes - rin and alc, inhibiting the ripening processes, were used. Methods of researches are standart for breeding tomato. Value and novelty of researches will consist in an establishment of regularities of variability and inheritance on the trait "suitability of tomato fruits for long shelf-life storage" and therefore in improving the methods of plant breeding work. The developed recommendations are applied in breeding. New tomato varieties - Shedevr 1 (brought in the Cataloge of plant varieties of Ukraine in 2002) and Kholodnyanskiy and Kolyadnic are developed. Results are introdused in farms of Kirovograd and Cherkassy regions. Sphere of use are breeding scientific institutes and agricultural enterprises.
