The manuscript is devoted to the research of scientific activity of V.O.Karavaev in the branch of zoology, hydrobiology, anthropology and also his role in the organization of domestic scientific and educational process. The research had been realized with principles of historical science, objective, scientific, factorial, concrete and other principles of all-round perception. Research methods are historical and theoretical analysis of domestic and foreign literary and archives sources, study and generalizing of historical and pedagogical literature, state documents of corresponding period, analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalizing and systematic of factual material.
