Essay

The Ph. D. thesis makes a comprehensive analysis of the process of transformation of traditional vegetable and fruit gardening in the Opillya area throughout the 20th century. Throughout the 20th century the view of a farmer from the Opillya area of the future prospects in vegetable and fruit gardening development changed greatly. Once a subsidiary branch, this branch of agriculture kept gaining traits of a commodity production. Husbandries began to specialize in this branch of agriculture. The Opillya area also experienced innovations in the ways of tillage, assortment of cultivated vegetables and fruits, methods of cultivation, preservation, and processing, but popular experience and knowledge still remain its integral part.
