An object is the parameters of gas-energy exchange and lipid metabolism, lipid metabolism enzymes activities of different stages of postnatal ontogenesis, composition and quality of colostrum of cattle of the grey Ukrainian breed, and safety of new-born calves. . Purpose - studying the physiological status of grey Ukrainian breed cattle to the indexes of gas-energy exchange and lipid metabolism, and on this basis to develop the optimum system of maintenance, which provides high adaptive reactivity, resistance, productive ability of cows in the condition of steppe area of Ukraine. Methods - physiological, biochemical, morphological and statistical. Novelty - the levels of gas-energy exchange and lipid metabolism on different stages of postnatal ontogenesis of grey Ukrainian breed cattle to condition of the stall and camp-pasture systems of maintenance are studied. The features of composition and quality of colostrums of the grey Ukrainian breed cows are depend on the terms of maintenance are set, and the level of safety of new-born calves from the terms of maintenance of the grey Ukrainian breed cows-mothers is similarly set.
