Research object: texts of modern press, in which irony is represented. Research purpose: forming a basic picture of frame irony representation in press, finding out the essence of the cognitive processes which background an ironic utterance and direct the corresponding implications for the addressee. Research methods: contrastive-pragmatic analysis combined with frame modeling; cross-cultural analysis in the form used by linguistics; descriptive; statistic. Results, novelty: irony is described and analyzed from frame theory point of view; a generalized analysis of irony frame mechanisms is made on modern press material. Sphere of use: in teaching general theoretic linguistic courses.
