The dissertation presents theoretical and experimental research on psychological peculiarities of anticipation that are characteristic of high schooi students in the process of intellectual problem solving. The main approaches to the problem of anticipation were level revealed. Clarified was the psychological definition of anticipation as an important function of thinking. The structural model of anticipation was developed, and its structural constituents elucidated. The specific features of anticipation affecting the problem solving efficacy were scrutinized. The evidence is found that the mental model of the image of problem's solution is crucial. Its efficiency depends on the specificity of intuitive and logic components of thinking. Finalized is the role of spatial categories of thinking, which level of development determines general anticipating capability. The inference is made the deliberate process of anticipation development can be successful provided that the instructional environment impliestraining of the student in mental modeling of the problem's solution.
