The dissertation focuses on the problem of testing future teachers' socio-cultural competence while reading and listening to publicistic, popular-scientific and pragmatic texts. The methodology has been theoretically substantiated. The objects of socio-cultural competence as assessment targets were classified. Criteria for selecting authentic English texts for reading and listening were specified. As a result a complex of test items to assess socio-cultural competence has been created and theoretically substantiated. Its effectiveness was verified and confirmed in the process of experimental teaching. Methodological recommendations concerning socio-cultural competence assessment at Foreign Languages departments have been developed and applied in practice in three higher educational establishments in Ukraine.
