The process of the higher education system's functioning like the sphere of social and economical activity. The investigation of the functioning peculiarities of the higher education sector and its role at the economical development of Ukraine. The determination of the economical meaning of the conception of the higher education sector, main suppositions of its origin, specific peculiarities of its development and functioning at the modern conditions of the society's development are substantiated. The necessity of the higher education sector's functioning in Ukraine at the modern conditions of the society's development is grounded.
