Essay

Object - the process of multispectral space scanning and geoinformational systems application in soil cover research of the Ukrainian Forest region (Polissya). Purpose - the study of the multispectral space scanning possibilities with the object of electronic soil mapping for Ukraine forest zone and using remote sensing for soil monitoring. Methods - field investigations; laboratory analysis; office investigation (space image interpretation, digital relief model making, mathematic formula deducing, electronic soil mapping). Theoretical results - the new mathematic models, which evaluate correlations between optical parameters and general soil characteristics for Polissya are proposed; the theoretical approaches to the problem of Polissya soil reflection power in the three bands of electromagnetic wave are worked out. The findings are bases for electronic thematic mapping. The necessary of remote sensing application during soil cover observation is substantiated, especially for Polissya region. Practical results - the new methods of electronic soil mapping and the modern principles of large-scale soil observation, which are based just on digital information, are worked out; the ecological monitoring of soil cover by means of modern technologies is proposed. The new electronic soil maps of single fields and electronic maps of general polissya soil components are constructed. Theoretical and methodological principles of electronic soil mapping are proposed for educational process, but methods for scientific research and large-scale soil observation of Ukraine. Novelty - the theoretical approaches to the problem of large-scale soil observation and soil mapping are more comprehensive. The principle of electronic soil mapping is based just on quantitative information. For the first time in Ukraine mathematic models are worked, which evaluate correlations between multispectral space scanning parameters and general soil components for Polissya (content of humus, granulometric composition, content of mobile iron, etc.) and relief parameters. The proposed mathematic models are bases of electronic soil thematic mapping for Polissya region. The modern electronic soil map imaging is adapted to high computer technology. Degree of application - research results are used by Ukraine Department of Education and Science, State Research-and-Production Center "Priroda", Ukraine National Space Agency. Results are recommended for using by land and water state services of Ukraine, Ukraine Department of Ecology and Natural Resources, Department of Agrarian Policy, General Research and Planning Institute of Land Use Organization, State Region Planning Technological Centers of Soil Fertility Protection and Production Quality, Agriculture Administrations for soil monitoring. Research results can be used in educational process. The field is scientific-educational and nature protection.
