Essay

The thesis deals with the methodology of teaching writing of project in German to external students of linguistic Universities and Philological departments. Report is treated as a genre of academic writing. The self-education of external students on the basis of using the distance course and the procedure of distance teaching and learning writing are theoretically substantiated. Socio-cultural peculiarities of report of the Ukrainians and Germans have been researched. Peculiarities of psychological and age characteristics of external students, as well as autonomy of teaching and learning academic writing in German have been described. Skills which are necessary for writing report have been defined. Academic writing skills and skills dealing with extended use of German have been selected. The structure and contents of distance course for writing report have been described. As a result, a system of exercises to master writing report in German has been worked out and theoretically substantiated. The model of self-education using distance course has been worked out. The suggested methodology was verified and corroborated during experimental teaching and learning. The methodological recommendations on how to organize self-education of academic writing in German using distance education have been developed and applied in practice in four higher educational establishments in Ukraine.
