A thesis on obtaining candidate's degree in Sociology with speciality 22.00.01 - Theory and history of Sociology. - Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, Kyiv, 2006. - 176 p. The thesis research is dedicated to periodization of constitution and development of sociological discourse about the modernization theory. The thesis examines in details changes of subject of the modernization theory during different historical intervals. As a theoretical base works of Ukrainian (V. Yevtukh, B. Golovko, P. Kutuyev, E. Il'yushina) and foreign (H. Rose, L. Pye, B.Wittrock, W. Rostow, В. Moore) sociologists were used. Analysis of fundamental ideas and conceptions of modernization theory leaded to conclusion that the structure of discourse about modernization theory has four consecutive periods: classical period (last third of XVIII century - beginning of XX century), period of constitution (20-60th of XX century), development period (70-80th of XX century), diversification period (end of XX century - beginningof XXI century). Propositions and conclusions of the thesis let to understand the essence of the modernization theory and to reveal modern tendencies of its development in Sociology.
