Essay

In this thesis for the first time in the domestic science of journalism the comprehensive analysis of the Ukrainian periodicals was made, which were published in Germany during 1919-1945; it was examined their forming process and conditions of functioning; typological peculiarities of the periodicals were analyzed; the meaning content specificity of a periodical, especially of publicism, was scrutinized. There were revealed a lot of new facts that characterize the public and political life of the Ukrainian emigration in Germany, and also many-subject information, particularly publishing, the activity of the Ukrainian political and public movements, associations, communities, scientific institutions. The creative portraits of famous figures of Ukrainian policy, science, culture and art, which took part in forming of the national periodicals, were supplemented with their new fields of activity. It was determined the role of the emigration periodicals in preservation and development of the national idea,in national and cultural developments of the Ukrainians in general.
