Object - the selection of initial material by short-season traits for breeding early-maturity hybrids of maize. Aim - the selection of maize initial material different germ plasm by short-season traits and their interrelation in inbred lines and hybrids; determination of the reaction of different genotypes on changing growing conditions; the creation of early-maturity hybrids adopted to the condition of the Steppe of Ukraine. Methods - field, laboratory, selection experiences. Novelty - differentiation of self-pollinated lines by the level of variation base traits dependently sowing data and their genetic parentage was analyzed. Self-pollinated lines differed by type lose moisture were defined and better shema obtaining hybrids with intensive moisture pass was recommended.
