Khromenko V. Initial material for breeding of early ripening corn hybrids under condition of the central Forest-Steppe in Ukraine

Subject: value of the original material for heterotic selection of maize hybrids as to early maturing. Aim: to establish the effectiveness of the original material selection methods and to create new high-yielding early maturing hybrids of maize. Methods: field, laboratory, math-statistical. Novelty: there is established selection methods' effectiveness as to the resistance to stresses (cold, diseases) and in monocrop conditions; there is proved a possibility for a simultaneous selection as to early maturing and high combining ability. Results: there are created the selfed lines with a complex of economic traits, which are used during the selection of maize early maturing hybrids; there is formed the unique collection of the selfed lines having a status of the object of national scientific property. Application stage: 15 hybrids are created and included into the State Variety List, out of these 4 are early maturing, 6-mid-early, 3-mid-maturing, 1-mid-late and 1 late maturing; in the State Variety trialin 2006 there were 3 maize hybrids, in 2007-2; 26 accessions were passed to the NCPGRU and included into the collection.
