Essay

Subject: selection procedure for development of Allium cepa varieties. Aim: to determine peculiarities of the developed genepool, to ascertain breeding value of the original material, to improve breeding methods. Methods: visual, measure-weight, mathematical-statistical, calculation. Novelty: there are identified early-maturing and productive sources for breeding, correlation dependence is proved, there are improved the methods of breeding process, there is worked out the examination method for VOS. Results: there is formed a genepool consisting of 204 samples, there are identified 57 sources by the complex of economic traits. Application stage: 3 new cultivars of onion entered the State Plant Variety List of Ukraine. Application area: breeding institutions, AIC of Ukraine.
