Essay

The dissertation researches the dynamic process of emergence, establishment and development of Kharkiv Mathematics Society (KMS) at the Imperial Kharkive University at the end of 19 th century and the beginning of the 20 thе century. It has descovered and analysed the Society's structure, components and sources of its financing. The author has made a complex analyses of major directions of its social, political, pedagogical, financial and publishing activities. Archival records concerning the activities of V.A.Steklov, A.P.Psheborskiy and M.P.Kravchuk have been found. The author has characterized KMS's contribution in general as well as that of its members particularly to the development of Mathematics in Ukraine over the period which was researched.
