Essay

Dissertation explores peculiar features of dwelling houses, courtyards and farm buildings constructed by Ukrainians in the north-western part of Galicia and south-western part of Volhynia. The author defines four ethnographic-architectural regions with specific characteristics of the traditional building culture clearly indicated: central (Opillya), southern (Zhydachiv-Sambir Subcarpathian region located along the Dnister river, otherwise known as Pidhirya), northern (so-called Galician Volhynia), north-western (Peremyshl-Yavoriv region of Nadsiannya).
