Essay

In dissertation research based on complex analysis of sources (both published and archives) and literature biography of the known public man, writer B. Grinchenko (1863-1910) was complemented, that related to ethnographic activity, a theoretical and methodological scientific inheritance is reflected. Considerable attention is spared the process of forming of his scientific looks, certainly role of surroundings in becoming Grinchenko as an ethnographer. Explored collaboration with other researchers-ethnographers and with Scientific society of Shevchenko, that little large value for distribution of ethnographic researches on the walks of life of Ukraine. Activity of scientist is traced in matters of expansion of network of correspondents-collectors of folk creation, which writers, teachers, priests, students, public and cultural figures, were among. Ethnographic aspects are first selected in „The Ukrainian dictionary" of B. Grinchenko.
