Essay

The thesis is a theoretic-experimental research of the problem of the neurotic distress of first-graders. By analyzing theoretically terms "neurosis" and "distress" it was suggested to understand meaning of term "neurotic distress" as a psychic status of the personality, shadowed by negative emotions and feelings. Neurotic distress is caused by worries, fears, inhibited states, in particular fears not to complete significant achievements in subjective indetermination of the personal activity results or in known achievements (success - failure) in specific, important school situation for a child. Neurotic distress mirrors peculiarities of the unproductive stay of a child in a situation of determination of some important problem, tied with a high grade of negative emotions, overreacting to the situation's importance, disbelief in own ability to deal with a situation, inadequate reacting to an unsuccessful or successful overcoming of this situation. Similarities and discrepancies of neurosis and neuroticdistress were determined. Connection between actualizing distress and adaptation (neurotic distress and disadaptation) was researched empirically. Psychological model of a neurotic distress structure was created and defended. Contents and specifics of neurotic and actualizing distress of first-graders were determined. Resulting from the research, three levels of neurotic distress development were determined: low, medium and high. Methods for diagnosing of neurotic and actualizing distress for first-graders in conditions of important school situation were developed. Psychocorrectional program, directed at overcoming neurotic distress was developed and tested, considering level of distress development.
