This thesis focuses on analysis of scientific, engineering, organizational and public activities of a prominent native engineer a railway scholar and railway administrator (manager), specialist in the field of railway bridge construction D.I. Zhuravskiy. The historical impovtance of his studies and their contribution to the development - of the 19 century railway are analyzed in this thesis. Systematization of different sources material Maved the author to expose the scene of scientific and technological railway transport development in the Russian empire and Ukraine in comparison with the similar process taking place alroad. His scientific and pedagogical contribution had become the ground for further development of new ideals and conceptions in technical investigations.
