The thesis focuses on the problem of teaching future English language teachers listening for specific purposes. The methodology of teaching listening for specific purposes has been created. The psycholinguistic, linguistic and methodological basics of teaching listening for specific purposes have been determined. The notion of the spoken academic discourse and its generic characteristics have been defined and described. The criteria of academic discourse selection have been clarified and specified. The system of exercises for teaching listening for specific purposes has been theoretically sustained and practically worked out. The effectiveness of the suggested methodology has been verified and proved experimentally. Methodological guidelines have been developed.
