Nechay O. Advances in diagnosis and surgical treatment of medullary thyroid carcinoma

The dissertation demonstrates the expedience of measurement of blood calcitoninum in patients with suspected medullar carcinoma. The type of medullary carcinoma was determined by using of suggested algorythm of the diagnosis: sporadic form presented in 76,71%, inherited - in 23,29%, that corresponds to international statistic data. High frequency of regional metastases (43,84%) and inefficacy of adjuvant therapy in patients with medullary carcinoma proves the expedience of implementation of extracapsular technique with central dissection of lymphatic nodules and modified lateral dissection. The unacceptance of organ saving operations was shown as well as necessity of complete thyroidectomy with dissection of lymphatic nodules in the case of primary non-radical operation. Monitoring of patients with medullary carcinoma including calcitoninum tests and scanning with radiopharmacology agents was suggested.
