This thesis is devoted to the complex research of institution of kinship in Ukrainian traditional society from the second half of nineteenth to beginning of twentieth century. There were analysed the state and character of a source base of kinship, set the problem's degree of being researched in domestic and foreign historiography. There was explored the classification of the Ukrainian system of kinship and were analysed its basic structural elements. The concept-category vehicle is considered. There were retraced the moments of origin and functioning of godfathers of the child and sworn brothers institutions. There were cleared up the principal reasons of basic social institutions of temporal kinship - bachelors and girlish societies - appearance and disappearance. There was explored the place of a midwife in family life, in particular its role in conducting of domestic and calendars holidays. We found out the basic stages of Ukrainian system of kinship crystallization. There was explored the role ofblood and spiritual kinship in the marriage celebration. Also the correlation of church and common law norms in a family low was retraced. The influence of labour payment to the common law division of property is analysed too.
