Essay

This dissertation is one of the first studies in Fine Arts researches of an Artistic image in Ukrainian folk - stage dance. In our work we consider the nature and properties of Artistic image as a category of aesthetics, and the specificity of image in the dancing art.We critically rethink a number of obsolete tenets and conclusions regarding the typology and the sources of Ukrainian folk choreography, folk syncretism, classification of the round dances with singing, etc.The problem of non-concordance between the outer and inner image, the form and the content in the folk stage dance has gained specific acuteness in the choreographic art because of the threat in the form of so-called "Malorossiya" folk art (remnants of the past) on the one hand, and vacuous, non-spiritual modernization of the folk dance in recent time on the other. Under new circumstances of cultural plurality, a sort of hazardous tendency could be traced in public consciousness: to form a negative attitude towards the folk stage danceas an artistic phenomenon, which assists to create not the Ukrainian national character, but a sort of Ukrainian stereotype in baggy trousers and embroidered shirt.
