Object: process of forming the professional competence in future specialists of book design; Aim: to ground and check up the pedagogical terms of the effective forming of the professional competence in future specialists of book design in higher educational establishments; Methods: literature analysis, theoretical design, questionnaire, experiment; Novelty: at first the essential characteristics, the criteria and indices of professional competence of a book designer, have been defined; at first to ground and check the effective pedagogical terms forming of the professional competence in future specialists of book design; Results: a training, a course “The basis of a book design”, the materials of the work can be utilized in professional of specialists of book design and drawing design, of book drawing, Field – theory and methodology of professional education.
