Essay

Object - estimation and selection of initial material of corn on drought-resistance with use of physiological methods, adaptive and combining ability, selection value of the selected samples lines. The purpose - estimation and selection of new drought-resistant initial material of corn of plasma Iodent adapted to the dry conditions of the Ukrainian Steppe, identificated by physiological methods. Methods: laboratory, laboratory-field and field experiences, topcross method for defining combining ability self-pollinated lines. Results: It has defined that the best background for selection during creation of lines are osmotic solutions of sucrose with gradual increase of osmotic pressure from 18 up to 22 atm. The increase of combining ability for the trait "crop yield" of the received genotypes is shown. The highest parameters of adaptive ability and selection value of the selected samples in different ecological conditions are marked. The hybrids with high productivity of grain and stability are determined. Using valuable and high productive lines the middle-maturing hybrid Borozens'kiy 277МV has noted in the State register of plants sorts in 2008 and early-maturing hybrid Pochaivs'kiy 190MV is recognized perspective.
