Pasichnyk S. The comparative assessment of the efficiency of various management of patients with prostate cancer complicated by the acute urinary retention.

In the thesis the course of the different stages of prostate cancer in 715 patients (including 663 patients with acute urinary retention) has been analysed. The most optimal and scientifically proved duration of the urethral catheterization is three months. Urethral catheterization for more than three months is not feasible because of the low percentage (2,31%) of the positive effect, more frequent infectious complications (its incidence rose twice from the third to sixth month) and deterioration of the QOL by 1 point. Results of the TURP and its modifications for the treatment of acute urinary retention has been analysed, indications and contraindications for the different methods of acute urinary retention treatment has been developed. It was proved that employment of the endosurgical treatment of prostate cancer complicated by the acute urinary retention had no influence on the cancer progression and did not increase the cancer-specific mortality. Algorithm of the treatment of prostate cancer complicated by the acute urinary retention has been developed.
