Essay

This thesis takes into consideration international interactions on the example of the genre of piano paraphrase of M. Glinka that had fallen under influence of several musical cultures: Russian, Italian, German and others. Paraphrase’s genre – one of the means of intercultural dialogue – turns into an area of style experiments and adaptation of new intonationality to Russian musical style in Glinka’s works. Cognation of M. Glinka’s works to general-European Romantic Piano Art allows considering style intersections on three levels: of international ties, as well as genetic, contact and typological. The result of the research gives access to new for Russian Musical Art visual-notional spheres, which are taking part of dynamic components of national style and having their musical expression in piano creations of Glinka: Russian Elegiac Lyric, Russian Nocturne Lyric and Russian scherzosity. They are studied in detail in musical-analytic part on the examples of Glinka’s paraphrases of different age, each ofwhich is an original quintessence of corresponding stage of style pursuit of the composer.
