The object of the research is dilogy "Magitians" and "Great Rosenkreuzer" by Vs. Solovyov in socio-cultural context of the epoch. The purpose of the dissertation is the analysis af the peculiarities of the dilogy by Vs. Solovyov. The research methodology is based on using the newest achievements in the science of literature in complex with methodology of other branches of science, e.i. cognitive, hermeneutics, comparative, the elements of descriptive, biographism, historic and cultural comments. The given paper is dedicated to the research of two novels by Vs. Solovyov, insufficiently known writer of the XIX century. It is the first time in native literary criticism that the investigation of the mystical dilogy of the mentionned author is made within the framework of traditions and innovation, in totality of the art peculiarities of the novels as well as philosophical and esoteric studies taken together in socio-cultural context of the 1880-s. The periods of literary creativity of Vs. Solovyov aregiven, the creative relations of the writer with H. Blavatskaya and Vl. Solovyov are analysed as the processes of interattracting and keeping at a distance. At the same time the reverse touch that gives evidence of influence of Vs. Solovyov's creative work on some of the literature processes, particularly, origine and development of the symbolic direction, is traced. The present thesis provides the analysis of philosophical foundation of the novels and the models of personal spiritual evolution introduced into the dilogy and based on philosophical doctrines of the writer's contemporaries - the philosophers Vl. Solovyov and F. Nietzsche. The methods of embodiment and formation of given models in the novel text as well as their integration into the mystical study of the secret order are shown. The thesis studies the problem of possible sources of the dilogy, symbolism of the titles of the novels, the ways of introduction of the biographical information and influence of Russian philosophical prose of the XIX century on the poetics of Vs. Solovyov's dilogy as well. The thesis also places emphasis on the system of the characters as art incarnation of philosophical concept of the author's world outlook in the novel "Magicians". The other novel "Great Rosenkreuzer" is regarded as the attempt of realization of symbolic principle in its poetics. Field of application: materials and results of the research can be used for practical and lecture courses on the history of foreign literature, for seminars on the history of Russian literature of the end of XIXth - XXth centuries.
