The investigation in the thesis is based on the data accumulated from the Ukrainian, Russian, English, German languages. The concept of the FSF of diminutiveness is examined from the comparative linguistic point of view. Special attention is given to the polyfunctionality of the language signs and their mutual relations inside of the field. The stress is made on the finding out of the markers of diminutiveness from the different language layers. The structure of the left and right components of paradigmatic row of FSF of diminutiveness (synthetic and analytic forms) and their semantic peculiaritiesare defined. They are suffixes, prefixes, words, complex and repeated forms of words, syntactical constructions and so on. Their arsenal helps to express all the variety of semantic of diminutiveness within the analysed FSF. The peculiarities of categorical semantics of diminutiveness, its correlation with the categorical semantics of pejorativeness and the specificity of their entry to the functional-semantic field of diminutiveness are fixed.
