Essay

The thesis analyses the policy and security dimension of US policy toward East Asian States in the postbipolar period. Analysis of US leadership concept in East Asia affords grounds to assert on the decrease of efficiency of US regulatory influence as a result of Chinese regional leadership within the regional subsystem. The author examines US national interests in East Asia aimed at peace keeping in the Taiwan Strait and on the Korean peninsula, and long-term settlement of disputes between China and Japan on the terms advantageous for the USA. The U.S.-Japan Alliance evolved to functional readiness of Japan Self-Defense Forces to take defensive actions at long distance from the national territory with U.S. support. The U.S. viewed the Taiwan issue as an instrument to solve sensitive issues in bilateral relations with China. The author analyses basic ways to resolve the Korean issue and specifies Washington's stance at the six-party talks concerning the DPRK's nuclear program.
