Essay

Subject: breeding value of selfed lines of maize with different origin and hybrids created by means of the lines. Aim: estimation of breeding value of maize selfed lines with different genetic origin by major economic characters and determination of the optimal combination of germplasms of the parental lines at the creation of highly heterotic hybrids. Methods: field, laboratory, statistic, estimation of combining ability in maize lines. Novelty: types of yielding ability formation, classes of value, peculiarities of the selfed lines' reaction according to major quantitative characters are determined. It is established for the first time that the combination of different germplasms of lines in hybrids is efficient and on this base highly heterotic hybrid populations are identified. Results: in maize lines of different genetic origin there found 3 types of yielding ability formation and some sources of economic characters - 18 selfed lines with the germplasms of Iodent, Reid, Wisconsin 153 and 8 hybridsof different vegetative groups - early, mid-early, mid-ripening, which have entered the Plant Variety List of Ukraine. Application stage: 18 maize selfed lines are identified, they have been included into the breeding programs of PPI nd.a.V.Ya.Yuryev, Luganskyi IAIP, Zakarpatskyi IAIP, Bukovinskyi IAIP, Cherkaskaskyi IAIP, Ustymivska Experimental Station, Vinnytskyi and Umanskyi SAU. 2 hybrids - Vytyaz MV and Credit MV were sent to State Variety Trial. Application area: breeding institutions, AIC of Ukraine.
