Essay

The thesis deals with researching of archaeological assemblage known as a Kizil-Koba culture on sites of the Western Crimea. Analysis of previous science investigations linked with theme of thesis showed a line of actual questions of research answering of which permitted to define artifacts in scheme of modern archeological knowledge. Datum line of sources was analyzed as well, and it have been set up the system of methods on the basis of obtaining data. Classification and typology of material complex as a previous - of ceramics of Kizil-Koba culture permitted to synchronize archaeological complexes and then to form their chronology. Eight chronological horizons picked out on sites of Kizil-Koba culture in Western Crimea which adapted material of other Kizil-Koba sites and completely integrated assemblages of this culture into the main cultural and chronological scheme of the Northern Pontic region. Typology of ceramics and defining of dynamics of rising and death of types permitted to unite the horizons into three main historical periods and to describe the main processes connected to them: Early pre-Taurian (I, Ia, II, III (early phase) - UB horizons), that synchronous with time of HaA2-HaB2 and dates from the turn of 11th to the second half of 9th cent. BC, Late pre-Taurian (III (late phase), IV-UB horizons), that synchronous with time of HaB3 - beginning of HaC (earlier) and dates from the end of 9th to the mid of 8th cent. BC, and Taurian (V-UB, VI-H, VII-K, VIII-K horizons), that synchronous to HaC of Middle, scythian time of Eastern Europe, and then to the arising the ancient Greek sites in Western Crimea, so dates from the second half of 8th cent. BC. The end of this period and culture in the whole dates to the 4th cent. BC. Mythic "tauri" have got mining of ethnic name namely during the Taurian period, and Tauri of classical writing sources became a name of native population of Crimea Highlands. The first - Early pre-Taurian period shows hard influence from the Thrasian sites in Low Danube regionto several sites in South-Western Crimea which mark a forming and origin of Kizil-Koba culture date from the time of HaA2 (around turn of the 11th cent. BC). The second period - Late pre-Taurian, saves main characteristics of material culture, but demonstrates new vector of influence from the Northern Caucasian sites. The period dates from the end (second half) of the 9th cent. BC to the mid (first half) of the 8th cent. BC. The last period - Taurian one, shows changing in the assemblages and main influence from the Eastern neighbor regions, such as Kuban' basin, Northern Azov territories and Northern Caucasian sites, and appearing futures of Western cultures (geto-dacian) at the end of period. The period dates from the second half of 8th to the mid of 4th cent. BC in the Western Crimea.
