Essay

Thesis deals with the investigation of the topical issues of contemporary international law connected with the compliance by the subjects of international law of the commitments implied under principles of territorial integrity and inviolability of frontiers. Special attention is drawn to the history of development of the principles of territorial integrity and inviolability of frontiers and analysis of the legal norms under these principles. Commencement of the principles of territorial integrity and inviolability of frontiers in the system of international law is the objective result of the progressive evolution of the principles which initially took place in the ancient period of the international law. In terms of the principle of territorial integrity such other principles as principle of sovereignty of states, principle of peaceful settlement of disputes, principle of ban of threat or use of force and institute of neutrality played a significant role within certain stages of principle's development. Contemporary development of the principle of territorial integrity implies its codification by a number of international intergovernmental organizations, such as African Union, Organization of American States, Organization of Islamic Conference etc. Today principle of territorial integrity is defined both as a norm of positive and general international law. In connection with the principle of inviolability of frontiers nowadays it is referred as universal principle of international law. This conclusion is drawn principally on the basis of analysis of numerous resolutions of international organizations which reflect not only opinio juris on this issue but represent basic law systems of the world.
