Karnaukhova A. European Cooperation in the Sphere of Environmental Protection.

The thesis aims at studying the mechanism of realization of European environmental protection cooperation and the role of Ukraine in maintaining the system of the environmental security in Europe.The creation of more sustainable relationships between people and the nature is one of the most urgent social and environmental problems at the present time.Ecological problems are often at the heart of the political and economic challenges and have impact on human well-being.The dissertation research provides an overview of the activities related to the creation and development of the international environmental cooperation,including environmental diplomacy,as well as the discussions underway to shape future actions on prevention the ecological degradation.The thrust of the thesis is to focus on specific topics and issues that constitute areas of current environmental research interest and address some of the fundamental challenges facing the environmental diplomacy at the present time.The author focuses on the new ecological problems that pose difficult global negotiation challenges and proposes concrete actions in which transboundary environmental treaty-making can be improved.The rule of law as a mere concept is not enough.Sustainable development cannot be achieved unless laws governing society,the economy,and our relationship with the environment connect with our deepest values and are put into practice internationally.The dissertation research elaborates recommendations regarding the formulation and realization of the environmental policy of Ukraine in the framework of the international environmental cooperation in Europe.Ukraine,with its checkered history of ecological challenges,has a unique perspective to offer and role to play in the development of European environmental policies that are both economically feasible and ecologically sensitive.Ukraine's future economic,ecological and political influence will most dramatically be felt in the geo-political sphere which roughly approximates the borders of theEuropean Union.In the development of the environmental priorities and perspectives of Europe,Ukraine must play a vital role.
