Becoming and the dynamics of development of pedagogical looks of S.H. Chavdarov on the system of school philological education are analyzed in the dissertation. On the basis of wide complex study of the handwritten and published sources archived, the pedagogical and social and culture terms of forming of scientifically-pedagogical world view of S.H.Chavdarov are analyzed. It is also characterized the leading directions of pedagogical activity of S.H.Chavdarov. In particular, organizational and programmic reformation of school philological education; creation of Ukrainian scientific method-philological school, writing of manuals and textbooks on language method; analysis and systematization of didactics principles, methodical structuring and development of separate sections of linguistic didactics. It is set that S.H.Chavdarov as the arranger of philological education did considerable contribution to development of curricula and school programs, creating the first program for Ukrainian school, with keyprinciple of the conscious and strong mastering of material, considering age features of students. It is proved that in the new social and culture terms of ХХІ century S.H.Chavdarov the ideas deserve on attention and use. Works of the scientist in the field of philological education enrich the fund of Ukrainian pedagogical science and have a scientific value.
