Essay

The dissertation deals with the problem of teaching listening to recorded authentic dramas in English. The researcher introduces the methods of teaching students (Year III-IV) listening to dramatized recordings of dramas in English. The linguistic and psychological peculiarities of the units under research were taken into consideration. The principles of selecting dramas to teach listening comprehension were introduced and theoretically determined. The recommended set of exercises is aimed at training linguistic students to comprehend dramatized recordings of dramas via listening. It is expected that by means of the suggested methodology students will develop their listening skills by performing a set of specific successive actions in the course of the introductory, basic, and final stages of study. The efficiency of the suggested methodology was verified and confirmed by the results of the experimental teaching. Recommendations on how to organize teaching linguistic students to comprehend fully dramatized recordings of dramas via listening were developed and the suggested methodology was successfully implemented in the educational process of four universities in Ukraine.
