The thesis examines theoretical and practical aspects of the migration policy transformation in the Western European states. The paper reveals the economic nature of migration policy, provides the classification and comparative analysis of the theoretic approaches, and formulates the main factors determining the state immigration policy. The prospects of setting up a global framework for managing international labour migration are analyzed. The main causes and forms of transformation processes, the nature of the institutional changes, and the specifics of the EU common migration policy coordination are investigated. The changes of the scope and dynamics of migration flows, the main economic activity indicators of the immigrants and citizens of the receiving countries are considered.
