Goretskyy A. S.D. Kareisha's (1854 - 1934) scientific contribution to railway branch

This thesis focuses on analysis of scientific, engineering, organizational and public activities of a prominent native engineer of the railway, a railroad researcher, a specialist in railroading, railway administrator S. D. Kareisha. The thesis deal with Kareisha's historical significance and his contribution to the railway's development at the end of the XIX century and at the beginning of the XX century. Basing on the systematization of different source materials the author describes the development of science and technology of railway transport in the Russian Empire and in Ukraine, comparing this process with that of abroad. The scientific and pedagogical achievement of S. D. Kareisha became the basis for the development of ideas and new prospects for further technical researches. The Kareisha's contribution to the development of the railway stations, his activity for working out the railway permanent way and track structure has been characterized in the paper. The author considers scientific ideas of Kareisha on atomized technological communication systems his fundamental ideas for defending railways from snowfalls and snow shifts. The integral picture of scientific interest and achievements of the prominent scientist has been analyzed and reproduced.
