The dissertation discloses theoretical and methodological aspects of studying the development of phonological systems of Eastern Slavic languages in the works of linguists of the 2nd half of the 19th - the beginning of the 20th centuries (with due regard to the interconnection with the origin and development of Historic Phonology in general) for the first time in Linguistic Historiography. The sources of Historic Phonology of Eastern Slavic languages in the works on Historic Phonetics of representatives of Kharkiv, Leipzig, Moscow, Kazan and Geneva linguistic schools are studied.
