Essay

The analysis of the novelistic Dostoevsky's prose from the point of view of its dependence on the motive of penance is performed in the dissertation. The fact which was analyzed before as consciously worked out by the author religious-ontological problematic, in this dissertation is developed as esthetic regulatives, defining the work of esthetic consciousness as if from inside - immanently, while not becoming the "material" of this consciousness. Penitential motive includes compositional unity of the artistic whole of the novel "Crime and Punishment": every meaningful episode of the novel is either thematically or compositionally derivative of the penitential plot. The event of penance presupposes passing the following stages(on the example of the novel): - the experience of powerlessness of sacrificial intention of good; - the intuition of private, unique guilt and caused by this intuition falling out of the human community; - the stage of breakup of the "natural communities", promising and capable for ad judgment and forgiveness. The interpretation of the end of the novel in the style of Book of Job correlates with the defining opinion on architectonics of the event of penance on that ground , so Raskolnikov like biblical Job searches for his unique guilt accepting neither comfort nor exhortation. Thus we consider novel as the process of transition from the psychological level of confession to ontological level of penance. Setting by evangelic archetype the stageness of this process defines compositional originality of the novel "Crime and punishment"
