Essay

This thesis deals with methodology of teaching future English teachers express their thoughts, ideas and opinions in an organized discussion based on an authentic poetic text. The first step is to be able to obtain a thorough understanding of factual, conceptual and esthetic information hidden in a poem. Then, the next step is to take part in a discussion arranged around the problems highlighted in it. To achieve this, the definition of the discussion as a form of interactive speech has been specified, interactive speech skills for first-year students have been theoretically substantiated, rational criteria of selection of poems have been grounded, and techniques for reading poetry have been elaborated. As a result of the research, a system of exercises with the aim to teach future English teachers develop their interactive speech skills in a discussion based on an authentic poetic text has been worked out. The effectiveness of the suggested methodology has been verified and confirmed during the experimental teaching. Methodological recommendations as for its introduction have been developed.
