Skoreiko-Svirs'ka I. Adaptation of the English borrowings in the Ukrainian terminology of science and technology.

The thesis is devoted to a complex linguistic analysis of the assimilation of scientific and technical terms of English origin in the Ukrainian literary language. In present research scientific and theoretical principles of terminological borrowings study are interpreted; typical characteristics of borrowed terms adaptation in a new lingual system are outlined; the notion of a term is grounded. The dynamics of the English borrowings penetration into the Ukrainian terminology of science and technology has been traced. The thematic groups of Anglicisms have been singled out. The systemic and structural investigation of general tendencies of adaptation of scientific and technical terms of English origin on the phonetic, morphological, word-formative and lexico-semantic levels of Ukrainian has been carried out. The possible ways of standardization of terms-variants have been offered on the basis of their adaptation in accordance with the norms of the Ukrainian language.
